The Atlantic Hotel and Ocean Restaurant wins prestigious double at national awards

Jersey’s Atlantic Hotel and Ocean Restaurant has been awarded ‘Best Dining Experience’ and ‘Best Champagne List’ at the 2016 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence.

Created to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across the hotels, spas and venues in the Condé Nast Johansens collection, the awards are a trusted mark of quality, recognised by luxury consumers and travel professionals. 

Patrick Burke, owner and managing director of The Atlantic Hotel, said: ‘We are delighted to have been awarded these two prestigious accolades. Our team, so ably led by our restaurant manager, Martinho de Sousa, works tirelessly to ensure that the dining experience is sublime for our guests and these most recent award wins go to show that their hard work is recognised by customers and inspectors alike.’

Winners of these prestigious awards are selected based on responses from guest nomination forms, guest surveys and regional inspector reports drawn from the hotels featured in the Condé Nast Johansens Guides. The winners of the 2016 awards were revealed at the Annual Awards Dinner at The May Fair Hotel in London on Monday 2nd November 2015.

Judges were impressed by The Atlantic Hotel’s consistently high standards in the dining room.

‘It's easy to understand how The Atlantic Hotel has retained its Michelin Star since 2007 with highly qualified Restaurant Manager Martinho de Sousa and Executive Chef Mark Jordan at the helm. Only the best in fresh and local produce is served including island treats such as lobster and sole,’ they said. 

With regard to the hotel’s award-winning champagne list, the judges commented: ‘a lovely showcase; it’s a selection that cleverly introduces and explains the different houses with verticals of Champagne. Top marks.’

Mr Burke added: ‘I am extremely proud of our entire team. We have received great recognition in recent months, collecting the award for ‘Best International Hotel’ at the prestigious Food and Travel Reader Awards 2015, we retained our highly prized AA Four Red Star and AA Four Rosette ratings for the fifth year in succession and we also retained our Michelin star.  I am also proud that we are able to represent Jersey on a national and international stage.’

The Atlantic Hotel is the only property in the Channel Islands to have been featured in the first edition of the Johansens Guide, originally produced over three decades ago, which continues to feature today.  In 2013 the family owned establishment took the title of ‘Most Excellent Waterside Hotel’ and in 2015 was the winner in the ‘Best for Service’ category.
