The Atlantic Hotel’s gardens recognised among Jersey’s finest

The Atlantic Hotel has been awarded first place in the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society’s 2026 All Island Garden Competition, recognising the exceptional quality of its gardens and grounds. The hotel topped the Gardens Attached to a Hotel or Guest House category, achieving an impressive score of 94.5 out of 100 and receiving the prestigious John Le Sueur Rose Bowl.

Surrounded by the protected landscape of Les Mielles and overlooking St Ouen’s Bay, The Atlantic’s gardens are among the defining features of the guest experience and create the sense of tranquillity people associate with the hotel. Carefully maintained throughout the year, the grounds feature mature planting, colourful seasonal displays and sweeping lawns that frame Jersey’s spectacular west coast.

The award reflects the dedication of Head Gardener John Taylor and his assistant Nick Le Luan, whose year-round work ensures the hotel’s grounds remain in peak condition throughout the changing seasons.

Patrick Burke, Owner of The Atlantic Hotel, said: “We see ourselves as custodians of this remarkable place. Caring for the gardens isn’t simply about appearance; it’s about preserving the character of this special corner of Jersey for our guests to enjoy today and for many years to come. John and Nick work tirelessly throughout the year, and this recognition from the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society is a wonderful reflection of the care, knowledge and pride they bring to maintaining our grounds. Everyone at the hotel is incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

Beyond their visual appeal, the gardens are central to creating a true sense of place that celebrates The Atlantic’s remarkable setting above St Ouen’s Bay, an ethos that has long been central to the hotel’s philosophy. From afternoon tea on the terrace and peaceful moments beside the pool to herbs grown for the kitchen, the gardens are woven into daily life at the hotel, evolving with the seasons while supporting local wildlife and reflecting the team’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and careful stewardship of this unique coastal landscape.

Judged on general appearance, layout and cultivation, the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society’s All Island Garden Competition celebrates excellence in horticulture across the island. The John Le Sueur Rose Bowl will be presented at the Royal Jersey Showground on Wednesday 29 July.
