Honouring Our Hospitality Industry Titan

The Managing Director of Jersey’s award-winning Atlantic Hotel has been named as an ‘industry titan’ as he celebrates 30 years in the role.

Patrick Burke’s contribution to his industry has been acknowledged by Boutique Hotelier, an influential hospitality publication. It has named him on its 10-strong ‘industry titans’ list – the only Channel Islands’ hotelier to be recognised as such in the Boutique Hotelier power List Awards 2017.

The guide highlights 50 of the hospitality industry’s most outstanding individuals and pays tribute to their achievements over the past year. Boutique Hotels puts together the Power List, and individual categories, by inviting the sector to recommend the most dedicated professionals paying particular attention to examples of best practice.

‘I’m thrilled to have been recognised in this way by my industry peers. The hotel industry is very competitive and constantly changing, which encourages you to keep looking for innovative and creative ideas to maintain and improve standards,’ said Mr Burke, who is also owner of The Atlantic Hotel.

Under his leadership, The Atlantic Hotel has won four Red Stars and four Rosettes from the AA, the AA’s Courtesy and Care Award for England, multiple awards for excellent service from Condé Nast Johansens and a much coveted Catey award for Hotel of the Year in 2014.

The Atlantic Hotel’s Ocean Restaurant has held a Michelin star for 11 years. In 2011, Patrick Burke opened a second restaurant, Mark Jordan at the Beach in St Aubin’s Bay together with his executive chef Mark Jordan, to provide his guests with an informal alternative to Ocean.

Mr Burke is a passionate ambassador for the island and has worked tirelessly to promote Jersey as a destination of choice for international travellers. He launched the annual Eat Jersey Food Festival in 2015, bringing together renowned chefs to showcase the finest Jersey produce which attracts nationwide exposure for the island.

In 2010, Mr Burke co-founded the Luxury Jersey Hotels consortium to leverage the combined resources and marketing investment of local hoteliers to attract new market segments to Jersey. He has served as a director of Small Luxury Hotels of the World since 1999 and in 2006 was elected chairman for a three year term.

Patrick Burke’s contribution to the hospitality industry has previously been recognised by his admission as the sole Channel Island member of the Master Innholders. This lifetime award comes with the Freedom of the City of London and Fellowship of the Institute of Hospitality.
