The Atlantic Hotel in the Top Three Staycation Destinations in the UK

The Atlantic Hotel has been named in the top three hotels for National Geographic Traveller’s 2018 Home from Home Award for the second year running. Readers of the magazine voted The Atlantic as one of the best staycation destinations in the UK in the annual Big Sleep Awards. Sweeping sea views across St Ouen’s Bay and exceptional dining experiences at Ocean Restaurant earned The Atlantic this prestigious accolade.

Patrick Burke, Owner and Managing Director of The Atlantic has also been featured in National Geographic Traveller recently, sharing his top five beaches in Jersey. Patrick moved to the island with his family when he was two years old. He is a passionate ambassador for his adopted home and believes it has some of the best beaches to be found anywhere in the world.

Patrick chose his favourite beaches from the many miles of picturesque coastline that Jersey has to offer. Nestled in the south-west of the island, Portelet Bay kicks off Patrick’s list. ‘Peaceful and picturesque’, Patrick knows the beach well from his childhood spent at his family’s nearby guesthouse, The Penguin. Patrick recommends a swim or walk out to Janvrin’s Tomb, a Martello tower built in 1808, as an ‘absolute must’.

Patrick tips Greve de Lecq and Plemont for young families on holiday. The golden sands of Greve de Lecq are ‘great for building sandcastles’, whilst the rock pools and coves at Plemont have a ‘feel of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five’.

For those who enjoy a more active outdoor lifestyle, Patrick considers Beauport to be a ‘sun-seeker’s paradise’. The beach is ‘best accessed by kayak or boat’ but ‘the climb down can be fun as well’.

The five-miles of sand at St Ouen’s Bay serve as Patrick’s commute. The Atlantic Hotel overlooks the sweeping arch of the bay, a conservation site of outstanding natural beauty. Having travelled the world, Patrick believes he has ‘never found a finer beach than St Ouen’s.’
