The Atlantic Hotel embraces Regenerative Hospitality with the Small Luxury Hotels of the World Considerate Collection

Patrick Burke, Owner and Managing Director of The Atlantic Hotel, was recently invited to join the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) Considerate Connections Retreat, held at Dar Ahlam in Morocco. The retreat brought together a select group of hoteliers from around the world to explore how small, independent luxury hotels can continue to inspire positive impact through Regenerative Hospitality.

The experience has now been captured in a new SLH video that reflects on the conversations, collaborations, and shared purpose that emerged from the gathering. The film, which features Patrick Burke alongside other leading sustainable hoteliers, celebrates the ongoing evolution of the SLH Considerate Collection, of which The Atlantic Hotel has been a proud member since 2023.

Hosted on the fringes of the Moroccan desert at Dar Ahlam’s House of Dreams, the inaugural Considerate Connections Retreat brought together hoteliers from Brazil, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Jersey, Bhutan, Cyprus, Morocco and Portugal for an immersive exploration into what regenerative hospitality truly means — and how smaller, independent hotels are uniquely positioned to lead the movement.

Co-hosted by Regenopolis and Thierry Teyssier, founder of Dar Ahlam, the retreat encouraged participants to share knowledge, question traditional approaches, and connect deeply with the purpose of hospitality.

Reflecting on his experience, Patrick Burke said: “We’ve been working on sustainability for a number of years and regenerative hospitality is really the evolution of that process. It’s not about just using less, it’s about giving something back. Everyone is at a different stage of the journey and there may be some who haven’t even started. I think there’s this wonderful sense of fraternity that you get out of being a member of SLH, and the more we can all help each other, the better.”

The SLH Considerate Collection, launched in 2021, was created to help travellers find greener getaways without compromising on luxury. Each of the 80+ hotels within the worldwide collection has been handpicked for achieving the highest standards in sustainability, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) framework.

The release of the new film marks both the 4th anniversary of the Considerate Collection and the 35th anniversary of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. To celebrate, SLH has also published its first Call-to-Action (CTA) Report, highlighting the progress, partnerships, and future vision of sustainability in small luxury hospitality.

Patrick Burke’s contribution to the retreat underlines The Atlantic Hotel’s commitment to advancing sustainable luxury and sharing best practice within the global hospitality community.
