Les Ormes Golf Club Jersey

Les Ormes is a family friendly course and available to all abilities. It is a shorter course with quite a few par 3s, which makes it more enjoyable for all levels of golfers. As a visiting golfer, it is best to play this course on weekday mornings, as it is popular in the evenings after work, and over the weekend. There are quite a few holes where you will be able to enjoy the views of St Ouen’s beach, which makes this my most fun and relaxing course to play on the Island.

Les Ormes is a great 9 hole public golf course, open to anyone of any standard. It’s relatively easy to get tee times here, and you are able to book online. In the summer it gets busy, so I would advise trying to book ahead of time if you know when you want to play. If you are playing on your own they have a tendency to match you up with other people, which can be nice as you get to meet new people and some company on your way around.

Even though this is only a 9 hole course, they do have a second set of tees setup up so you are able to play 18 holes, if you wish. The cost for playing varies depending on the time of year, and also the time of day you play. This information can be found when you book online. They also have club hire available should you decide not to bring your clubs with you, £15 for 9 holes and £20 for 18 holes. This includes a trolley if you need one.

Les Ormes can be relatively busy in the summer, especially in the early evenings as quite a few people will come and play 9 holes after work. I would advise playing in the mornings if you are trying to avoid the busy times. The weekends also tend to be busy.

The dress code is relatively relaxed and only has a no denim or tracksuit policy. Golf shoes are required on the golf course. The clubhouse is open to anyone and does not have any specific dress code.

Les Ormes has a great pro shop and is one of my favourites to go to for all my golfing needs. They have a large selection of clubs, bags, clothing, rain gear and hats. They also have a wide range of used clubs and a nice putting green to try out a new putter.

Course Description

The 1st hole has spectacular views, as it runs alongside a cliff so you are able to see all the way down to St Ouen’s beach. This hole also runs parallel to the airport runway so most days you will be able to see the planes taking off and landing on the west side of the Island. The 1st and 2nd holes are relatively similar and not too tricky. They are both straight away par 4s you just need to avoid the bunkers as you go. The 3rd hole is played as a par 4 on the front 9, which can be reachable in one depending on your level of golf, and as a par 3 on the back 9. There really isn’t too much danger on this hole, the fairway is just very tight so I suggest hitting a comfortable shot off the tee if you don’t think you can’t get there in one.

The 4th hole is a tough par 3 which plays long and you also have to carry over a creek that runs across the fairway. You do have the option to lay up short of the creek if you do not feel comfortable trying to get over it. The green is sloped a little from right to left so aim to hit the right portion of the green. The next couple of holes are pretty straightforward, but also have some great views of the ocean. The final couple of holes require good course management. A drive up the right side of the fairway on the 8th hole will give you a good approach on the second shot. The green is fairly small and has a couple of bunkers surrounding it, so I will always opt for the middle of the green here. I think the 9th hole is the most fun finishing hole on the island. It’s a par 3 with an elevated tee with a lot of foliage between the tee and green that you need to carry over. The green itself is relatively big with no real danger surrounding it. This hole just requires a good mental approach and a positive target to aim at.
