The Atlantic Hotel’s Sergio dos Santos makes Semi-Finals of 2010 Sommelier of the Year Competition
The 15 top-placed regional finalists include representatives from restaurants across the UK including Michelin-starred establishments such as Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, the Fat Duck and Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. Sergio dos Santos will be the sole representative from the Channel Islands. The three top sommeliers will then compete in the final on the same day.
Now in its 30th year, the competition which is sponsored by Champagne Piper-Heidsieck, rewards sommeliers’ knowledge of wine, understanding of the restaurant business and their ability to cope under pressure.
The Atlantic Hotel’s Owner and Managing Director, Patrick Burke commented, “We are delighted that Sergio has been shortlisted to compete amongst sommeliers from some of the best restaurants in the country. This achievement is another significant milestone for The Atlantic and can only add to Jersey’s growing reputation in the restaurant world”.
Sergio dos Santos has worked at The Atlantic Hotel since 2007 when he joined from Chewton Glen Hotel in Hampshire. Sergio trained as a sommelier at Le Thalassa, a traditional restaurant in his hometown of Lorient. His other experience includes working at the Hôtel Million in Albertville and at the Hotel Majestic ”Villa des Lys” in Cannes.
