La Moye Golf Club Jersey

La Moye is a challenging, though rewarding course, and suited to those that play golf fairly regularly. As a visiting golfer, tee times are best booked weekdays, but if you have to play at the weekends, afternoons are better. Early evening rounds are the most rewarding making the most of the sunset on this course that has spectacular views of St Ouens Bay. This is my favourite course on the island to play in the evenings, on a beautiful summer day.

Dress code and shoes are important at La Moye Golf Club, as it is a traditional golf course with strict etiquette. It has a no denim policy, shirts must have a collar and be tucked in, and you will need dress shoes to go inside the clubhouse.

While staying at The Atlantic hotel, you will have the opportunity to get a tee time at La Moye golf course. It will cost £40 for 9 holes and £75 for 18 holes. It is a tough course and there is a handicap limit of 24 for men and 30 for women. You will be able to get tee times after 9.30 am during the week, and after 2 pm on weekends. It’s always best to play on weekdays, if you can, as the weekends tend to be busy with members. I always love playing at La Moye in the early evening. There is no better course in Jersey to play golf and enjoy the sun setting, it is just incredible.

The course tends to be busy with different leagues on Tuesday mornings, Wednesday all day, and Thursday mornings so I would advise trying to avoid these times to make your round enjoyable.

You will be able to hire a set of clubs for £18 for 18 holes which include a trolley if you wish.

Course Description

La Moye is a links-style course set up in the cliffs of St Brelade with spectacular views of the five mile beach of St Ouen. It is on the west side of the Island so you will be able to witness some incredible sunsets in the summer. You will pass by The Atlantic Hotel on a few different holes on the front nine. It starts with a couple of par 3s in the first 3 holes, which makes it tricky, but you will be rewarded with some par 5s after that.

The 4th, 6th and 7th holes give you some spectacular views of the beaches, the back nine of La Moye golf course, and on a clear day you’ll be able to see Guernsey in the distance. It does have a tendency to be quite windy, so you need to take advantage of the holes that are set slightly more inland in the middle of the round. They tend to be a little more sheltered. The back nine is the tougher side as it has some longer par 3s and is a little more exposed to the windy conditions. The four final holes are the best in the Island in terms of golf, and views.

The 15th hole is a par 4 which runs alongside the sand dunes, and there is nothing obstructing your view of the beach. It is also a great hole as it tends to play shorter than the yardage, but isn’t a guaranteed birdie and requires some good course management.

The back tee on the 16th hole has the most incredible view you will see on a golf course and allows you to see Jersey at its best.

The 17th and 18th holes are tough, but great finishing holes. The 17th tee shot can play long into the wind, but the fairway is pretty wide and just needs a good drive. I always like to play the safe option with my approach shot here. The green is slightly elevated and surrounded by bunkers. If you miss to the left of the green you will be left with a very tricky chip. My advice here is to opt for the front right portion of the green no matter where the flag is.

I would suggest taking your medicine with the 18th tee shot. There are two pot bunkers down the left-hand side of the fairway which are always tempting to take on, but I usually play it safe and aim down the right side of the fairway. The second shot gives you a great view coming into the clubhouse where people can see you finish your round. I am always pleased with two pars to finish a good day at La Moye golf course.
