Eat Jersey 2019 chefs

We have a fantastic line-up of celebrated chefs joining us for the Eat Jersey Food Festival this year.

Paul Hood

Chef Patron of the Social Company’s Michelin-starred Social Eating House, Paul Hood first met Jason Atherton while Sous Chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze and joined him to launch Pollen Street Social to critical acclaim.

Inspired by the buzz surrounding the resurgence of Soho, Social Eating House is a place for diners to enjoy the key elements of the current London dining scene in an informal and social setting, where the surroundings are as vibrant as the food.

In February 2017, Paul launched Atherton’s ninth venture in the British capital and the first specialising in pizza – Hai Cenato, a New York / Italian style restaurant and bar. Paul’s previous experience also includes stints at Montes Private Members Club, The Glasshouse in Kew and Thackeray's Tunbridge Wells.

Lee Smith

Executive Head Chef at Samphire, Jersey, Lee Smith brings a unique blend of innovation and tradition to his cuisine, creating simple, well cooked food that lets the ingredients do the talking.

Lee hails from Nottingham and realised his passion for cooking while at the internationally renowned Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire before moving to Jersey.

Lee earned his first Michelin star on the island as head chef at Ormer in 2013 and remained at the heart of the redevelopment plans when the restaurant re-opened as Samphire, offering a more relaxed social environment. Lee led Samphire to a Michelin star in 2019.

Paul Leonard

Head Chef at The Burlington Restaurant at the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa, North Yorkshire, Paul Leonard is passionate about local and home-grown produce which features strongly in his menus.

In his previous role at the Michelin-starred Isle of Eriska, he set up his own kitchen garden which provided 95% of the hotel’s vegetable produce. Paul was previously Sous Chef at Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles, one of Britain’s most elite hotel restaurants, holding two Michelin stars and 4 AA rosettes. Other notable posts include Senior Sous Chef at The Samling and Sous Chef at Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course.

Chris Underwood

Head Pastry Chef for The Adam Handling Group, Chris Underwood heads up the pastry sections for The Frog group and the Belmond Cadogan Hotel, Chelsea.

Chris is without doubt one of the most highly experienced and talented pastry chefs cooking in the UK today and has worked at some of Britain’s most iconic restaurants including the 2* Pied à Terre under Shane Osbourne, 2* Gidleigh Park with Michael Caines and 1* Fera at Claridges.

Chris also spent time at a private members club, The Devonshire Club, and has taken part in many pop-up restaurants including #allgunsblazin and an afternoon tea celebration at Selfridges with American chef Dan Barber.

Richard Davies

Richard Davies joined The Calcot Collection as Calcot Manor’s new Executive Chef in 2017, where he celebrates classically-based British dishes.

Richard’s Michelin-starred pedigree caters for a more relaxed restaurant experience at Calcot’s countryside escape.

Richard joined Calcot from Celtic Manor in South Wales, where he held the position of Head Chef for the resort’s fine dining restaurant, Epicure. Before this, his prior experience included eight years as Executive Chef at The Manor House in Castle Combe, during which time he achieved a Michelin star. He has also worked with the Gordon Ramsay Group at their three Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

Adam Reid

Chef Patron at The French, Adam Reid is renowned for showcasing modern British cooking and is recognised as one of the brightest talents in the industry today.

He began his career at 16, building his expertise and experience with roles at restaurants including Le Mont in Manchester, Brockencote Hall, Michelin-starred Mallory Court and the Michelin-starred Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor.

Adam was with Simon Rogan at the launch of The French in 2014, before taking over the reins himself two years later. Appearing on the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2016, Adam won a coveted place at a banquet at Westminster Palace to celebrate Great Britons.
